Dorchester County Taxpayers Association

Who Are We?

We are an independent local organization who is privately funded by donations from the general public. Our purpose is to encourage government to take less of our tax dollars and to work more efficiently with the taxes they collect.

We study the way the South Carolina officials spend money and formulate tax policy. We also study and report on bills being considered by the legislature and our local councils that relate to fiscal policy and urge lawmakers to either support or oppose them.

We Get The Word Out!

The legislative process is complicated; important issues can pass unnoticed through our legislative bodies. Bills and ordinances can become law before the voters can make their views known.

That’s why we report regularly to our members on taxes and spending through our newsletters and by inviting knowledgeable politicians and local authorities to speak at our meetings. We encourage voter involvement in the budgetary process and fiscal accountability in all our governmental officials.16

Our Newsletter

Our newsletters “follow the money”. They discuss where we stand in relation to the national economy, and where tax and spending priorities, or the lack thereof, seem to be taking us.

It is a nonpartisan, in-depth analysis presented in a down-to-earth way. We do extensive research in our local libraries and on the internet to keep informed of every detail of how our tax dollars are being spent.  We present our members with the results of this research in our newsletters and we always see that our local officials get a copy.

How Are We Funded?

We are funded entirely by people like you; individuals who have an interest in the ways their taxes are spent and who are savvy enough to want to influence how government works. Your dues and contributions make our work possible.

It takes money to advertise, send out mailings, contact legislators and hold public meetings. Please consider using the membership form on this website. We need your help to continue doing this important work.

What Can We Do For You?

Membership in DCTA means sharing the cost of acquiring influence and having a voice in setting state and local policy.

It means you have a bridge of communications between you and the elected officials in your district—where you live and where you work.

It also means having a team of experts at your disposal when you need information. Government makes decisions every day that affect your pocketbook. It will make those decisions whether you participate or not.

You don’t have the time or resources to track tax and spending issues through the legislative process. WE DO. You can’t be concerned with tax issues every day of the week. WE ARE.

Doesn’t it make sense to have an organization like DCTA keeping an eye on local and state politicians?
